Meet The Speakers:


                                      Moderator: Erik Sellfors

Since the age of eight, Erik has been involved in flipping homes alongside his parents. In 1987, at just 19 years old, he began his career in real estate, selling properties in the San Fernando Valley. By 1992, Erik received his first REO (Real Estate Owned) assignment, marking the start of a distinguished career working with major banks, servicers, and government agencies, including Fannie Mae and HUD.Today, Erik is the Broker/Owner of Cambridge Homes, with offices in both North Los Angeles and the Palm Springs area. Throughout his career, he has been fortunate to build lasting relationships with friends and colleagues in the industry. One of the greatest honors has been serving on the board of the National Association of Default Professionals (NADP), where he has contributed to the legislation and advocacy efforts, closely monitoring legal changes that impact the industry. More recently, Erik has helped lead webinars addressing critical issues facing the industry today.

When Erik isn’t working, his greatest joy comes from spending time with his kids, whether surfing or skiing, making cherished memories in the outdoors.

 

Stephen M. Hladik, Esquire

Stephen M. Hladik, Esquire, is a principal in Hladik, Onorato & Federman, LLP.  Formerly a Deputy Attorney General in charge of the Harrisburg office of the Pennsylvania Bureau of Consumer Protection, Steve brings a broad range of experience to his mortgage foreclosure, bankruptcy, tax sale and UDAAP legal practice.

A graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, Steve’s interest in history and politics grew into a desire to study law while taking a constitutional law class, among others, as an undergraduate. Steve pursued and obtained his law degree from Widener University, with honors, where he was named Internal Managing Editor of the Law Review.

Steve gained significant expertise in lending law enforcement in the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection, handling UDAP, FDCPA, RESPA and TILA cases. Prior to joining Hladik, Onorato & Federman, LLP, Steve was the Pennsylvania managing attorney for one of the nation’s largest creditor’s rights firms, practicing mortgage foreclosure and bankruptcy law.

Steve routinely teaches Continuing Legal Education courses on mortgage law, bankruptcy law, title law, real estate tax sale law, FDCPA and CFPB regulations, and related lending law compliance issues.  Steve also serves the mortgage servicing industry as the Chair of the Advisory Council of the Legal League and having previously chaired the Government Affairs Committee of the Legal League.  Steve also actively participates on various committees of the ALFN.

In addition to his legal practice, Steve was elected to three terms as a School Director on the North Penn School Board, and served as Chairman of the Finance Committee, where he oversaw implementation of a $225 million budget.  Prior to service on the School Board, Steve was a member of the Towamencin Township Planning Commission for six years.  Steve also served as the Vice President of the AKL Education Foundation and is the past National President of Alpha Kappa Lambda Fraternity.

Steve is admitted to practice before the Supreme Courts of Pennsylvania, Colorado, Michigan, New Mexico and New Jersey, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Pennsylvania, Colorado, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, and Puerto Rico. He is a member of the Montgomery County, Colorado, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Federal and American Bar Associations. Steve also served two terms as the Co-Chair of the Business, Banking and Corporate Counsel Committee of the Montgomery County Bar Association.

          

                    

Michael R. Pfeifer

Michael R. Pfeifer is “Of Counsel” to Weiner Brodsky Kider, PC and has over 4 decades of experience in real estate and consumer financial services litigation and regulatory compliance representation. He has also been General Counsel for the California MBA since 2011. Michael’s practice focuses on defense and counseling of lenders, servicers, and investors in regulatory examination, enforcement, and license-revocation proceedings. However, he also regularly handles real estate finance litigation of all kinds, including defense of consumer credit and UDAAP claims, default servicing and loan repurchase disputes, financial fraud recovery, title, and lien priority disputes (including title insurance coverage litigation), creditor representation in bankruptcy, and disputes arising from real estate purchase and sale transactions and HOA matters. Prior to becoming General Counsel of California MBA, Michael served on its Board of Directors for 9 years. He was also Chair of its Legal Issues and Regulatory Compliance Committee from 2011-2017, and Chair of its Annual Legal Issues and Compliance Conference from 2003-2014. In addition, Michael remains active in the Legal Issues, Regulatory Compliance, and Loan Administration Committees of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America and in the California Mortgage Association. He has published numerous articles on industry-related topics and is a frequent speaker and panelist at various industry conferences and educational events.  Michael received his JD Degree from Cornell University in 1975.
